PIKE MARKET SENIOR CENTER & FOOD BANK

SEATTLE, Washington, 98101-2077 United States

Mission Statement

In downtown Seattle, the Pike Market Senior Center strives to make each day better and safer for older adults; the Pike Market Food Bank serves people of all ages who face hunger. Together, we provide services, activities, and support that lead to more self sufficient and fulfilling lives. Many people are aware of this agency because of their annual holiday fundraising event, The Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Competition, which brings dozens of caroling teams and thousands of spectators into downtown Seattle every December.

About This Cause

At the Pike Market Senior Center, we offer nutritious meals, individual social work case management, and healthful activities to over 1,500 older adults (55+). The majority of Senior Center clients are very low-income and half are homeless. At the Pike Market Food Bank, we provide free groceries to over 3,600 hungry people of all ages. Senior Center programming has been developed and refined over the last four decades to meet the needs of vulnerable older adults who live with social isolation, disabilities, and other challenges that accompany aging in poverty. All of our programming is offered at no cost. The friendly, safe atmosphere makes us accessible to seniors from any kind of background. At the Pike Market Food Bank we are seeing a surge in new clients. This year, we are dedicated to providing more useful services to the large population of homeless people living in Downtown Seattle.
