Mission Statement
The Diabetes Association of Pierce County is a non-profit, tax-exempt, volunteer agency dedicated to the improvement of the well-being of individuals with diabetes and their families, as well as protecting the health of those who may develop diabetes.
About This Cause
Agency services include: 1) We operate the only day camp for children with type 1 diabetes in the Puget Sound region. 2) We provide training and certification to day care and school personnel who are providing diabetes care for young children when the parent is at work. 3) Our agency maintains a year-round diabetes screening program in the community for the public. To be tested an individual must be 18 years or older. 4) Prevention workshops for parents and their children teaching nutrition and exercise to promote health family lifestyles. 5) Diabetes self care workshops for adults living with diabetes. 6) Free blood glucose meters for people with limited income and women with diabetes during their pregnancy. 7) Assistance and referral service for people living with diabetes. 8) Free patient literature on web site - www.dapc.info
