Mission Statement

Hamlin Robinson School ignites the academic and creative potential of students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences.

About This Cause

Hamlin Robinson School (HRS) is the only non-profit school in Washington State dedicated to educating students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. HRS currently serves 320+ students in grades 1-8 from 60+ ZIP codes. Reading and language difficulties are recognized as not only an educational problem, but also a significant public health problem. As many as 35% of students with learning disabilities drop out of school due to academic difficulties. HRS has been a leader in helping these students for almost 40 years. For many students, coming to HRS is the first time they experience achievement and a sense of confidence in school. Through our multi-sensory approach to teaching, students gain the skills and conviction needed to advance successfully to high school and beyond. Additionally, the HRS Learning Center offers tutoring, professional development, social skills classes, and community events that involve and inform students, parents, educators, and professionals about dyslexia and other relevant topics. The HRS Learning Center also seeks to empower students with self-advocacy skills as well as providing training for parents and teachers. Families don’t choose dyslexia; kids don’t choose to have language and learning differences; most families who come to HRS didn’t plan on needing a private school program. Dyslexia is blind to socio-economic status and is often hereditary. This can place an additional burden on families who might never have considered private school education. Currently, 24% of families receive financial aid. Gifts to HRS help support these students, as well as our full academic curriculum and programs.
