Mission Statement

Upper Valley MEND is an independent, nonprofit, human-services organization based in Leavenworth, Washington. We work to meet the hunger, healthcare and housing needs in the Upper Wenatchee Valley in North Central Washington. MEND's service area covers the Cascade School District and Cashmere region, an area of about 17,000 people. Programs are based out of the city of Leavenworth. Services are offered in both English and Spanish.

About This Cause

Upper Valley MEND has programs to meet healthcare, hunger relief, emergency financial assistance and affordable housing needs in the Upper Wenatchee Valley: MEND’s Community Cupboard food bank is open 6 days a week to meet the hunger needs of our community. The Community Cupboard is sustained by donations of food, merchandise, volunteers, financial contributions and the annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser. MEND's emergency assistance program provides emergency shelter, social service referrals and assistance with rent, utility, fuel and transportation for those in crisis. The Upper Valley Free Health Clinic provides free and urgent health and dental care to uninsured and under-insured community members. For continuing care, the free clinic assists patients in finding low-cost services and free or reduced-cost prescriptions. SHARE Community Land Trust was founded on the belief that low and moderate income families who work in the Upper Valley should be able to live here. SHARE is an affordable homeownership program with 20 homes in two neighborhoods. Alpine Heights was completed in 2001 and Aldea Village in 2006. Cornerstone Community is a family home for six adults with developmental disabilities. Cornerstone’s efforts are guided by valuing the dignity of every individual, respect for self and others, creating diversity and community, appreciating joy and laughter and providing service to others. Jubilee Global Gifts is a retail store in downtown Leavenworth. It helps sustain both our global and local communities. The Fair Trade merchandise sold in the store provides economic opportunity for artisans and farmers in developing countries. After the goods are sold, proceeds benefit the other MEND programs. Thinking globally, acting locally. Das Thrift Haus is our secondhand retail store, providing low-cost clothes and household goods to the community. Proceeds support the Community Cupboard food bank and other MEND programs.
