Mission Statement

POCAAN’S MISSION POCAAN is committed to providing comprehensive, multicultural awareness and prevention messages aimed at addressing health disparities experienced in marginalized communities.

About This Cause

Established in 1987, POCAAN is a multicultural, multi-social service agency serving marginalized communities in Seattle and greater King County. For many years our work has been rooted in HIV/AIDS prevention. Today, it has grown to understand that related issues such as substance abuse, incarceration, homelessness, sexually transmitted diseases, racism, sexism, and homophobia also contribute to community marginalization and health disparities. For more than 33 years, POCAAN’s worked tirelessly building a supportive community predominately serving communities of color and those disproportionally underserved. As one of the few social service agencies for and by the BIPOC community, POCAAN’s efforts are supplied mostly through small donations and grants, which fund programs that include education, outreach, HIV/STI prevention/awareness/treatment, criminal justice programs for youth and young adults, and health advocacy work.
