Children's Center provides comprehensive community-based services which promote the psychological and social well being of children and adolescents.
About This Cause
We are a non-profit, state-licensed mental health agency that currently serves more than 1,600 clients each year with a range of innovative and effective programs, including: 1. Outpatient clinic-based mental health program; 2. School-based mental health programs in Battle Ground, La Center, Evergreen, and Vancouver School Districts; 3. Child Sexual Abuse Treatment Program; 4. A specialized program for children/youth affected by exposure to methamphetamine either in utero or environmentally; 5. Pathways Program for uninsured or underinsured children/youth; 6. Program for youth with co-occurring substance abuse and mental health problems in collaboration with Daybreak A snapshot of those we serve shows that 93% of the families enrolled in sessions are low income, 25% of the children are victims of crime, including domestic violence and/or physical abuse, and 10% were treated for trauma secondary to sexual abuse. In 2013 almost 40% were seen by one of our board-certified child psychiatrists for medication evaluation and/or psychiatric treatment. Examples of some of the problems our young clients are facing include: anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, suicidal ideation, physical/sexual abuse, adoption disruption, school-related behavioral problems, and/or family crisis. It is perhaps the words of one of clients that best highlights the impact of our work and the kindness of our supporters. Mariah says: “Now I look forward to waking up to a new day. I look forward to life. I love relationships with my family and friends. But most of all, if there is a problem that needs to be solved, I know that I can and will overcome it.”
