Mission Statement

The DSC is a registered 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is To empower people with Down syndrome and their families through life-long learning and experiences, while building an accepting and inclusive society. DSC is passionate about creating a world where people with Down syndrome participate fully in inclusive schools, activities and workplaces; and where they feel accepted, supported and celebrated for the extraordinary individuals they are. Our service area includes the entire Puget Sound region and Western Washington.

About This Cause

In 1988, a small group of parents came together to support each other in raising children with Down syndrome. Now over 30 years later, the Down Syndrome Center of Puget Sound (DSC) has grown to become the preeminent nonprofit organization providing services, programs and resources for nearly 2600 families throughout the Puget Sound region annually. DSC provides tools and resources to support the individuals with Ds and their family at every age and stage. Our programs and services have impacted more than 2600 individuals and families in 2023 alone. Our organization is built on a commitment to serve all individuals with Down syndrome and their families while actively inspiring all of society to make inclusivity part of their daily lives. With a passionate and dedicated team of staff, partners, and volunteers, we work to ensure that every person we meet experiences the many benefits that inclusion has to bring. We offer a wide range of programs and services for individuals with Down syndrome and their families from birth through adulthood. DSC covers 90% of the cost of all of our services and offers financial aid to all who ask. We do not turn anyone away, regardless of their ability to pay.
