Mission Statement
The Northwest Lymphedema Center (NWLC) based in Seattle, Washington, helps people of the Pacific Northwest and beyond, understand and meet the challenges of Lymphedema (LE). The self-care education, information and resources we provide reach people living with or at risk of Lymphedema (LE) and their care partners, giving them knowledge, confidence and hope of increasing physical and emotional well-being. We are: patient-centered; by and for people with Lymphedema (LE); independent and supportive of patient choice; led by people with diverse perspectives and expertise; and committed to personal support and connection. We are sustained by the generosity of inspired volunteers and donations.
About This Cause
The Northwest Lymphedema Center (NWLC) provides education, support, and community to help people 'live well with Lymphedema (LE).' In 2023, we were proud to continue our Navigation initiative for patients or patient representatives who contact us to identify referral options for specific needs and locations, or to find the resources and support they seek through phone call, email, and website inquiries. As part of that effort, our website hosts a curated Directory of Certified Lymphedema Therapists (CLTs) in the Pacific Northwest including Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska, to aid in what can often be the difficult task of finding care. In 2024, we will engage Stakeholders in creating a new vision and developing new leadership with the infrastructure and tools we have created as an organizational base. We will contise nue to support our partnership with Cancer Lifeline in offering monthly Lymphedema related educational presentations and support groups tailored to the specific needs of Lymphedema patients, with the assistance of professional Facilitators. RECOGNITION: We especially want to recognize our volunteers for contributing their time and talents on behalf of the Lymphedema (LE) community in the Pacific Northwest. We recognize that each patient situation and patient journey is unique. Why? It's simple: many of our volunteers are Lymphedema (LE) patients themselves with a firsthand understanding of what it is like to live daily with a chronic and sometimes unpredictable disease. Along the way they benefited from one or more of our programs. Now they share that experience and value with others. As an all-volunteer organization, we are able to direct 88% of funding to our programs so your donation will directly help those with Lymphedema (LE) find support from others who appreciate the challenges of the diagnosis. We send gratitude to our dedicated volunteers for giving back, as we do to our private and corporate donors for their financial and moral support, and for the grants we have received.
