YANKEE CLIPPER FOUNDATION

SEATTLE, Washington, 98127 United States

Mission Statement

The Yankee Clipper Foundation exists to provide support for sail training in the belief that sail training is an adventure and a character building and educational opportunity for people of all ages but especially for the youth.

About This Cause

The Yankee Clipper Foundation was created to support the Sea Scout Ship Yankee Clipper, which is one of the longest continuously active units in the Chief Seattle Council of Scouting America (formerly the Boy Scouts of America). The Yankee Clipper was first chartered in 1930 and has been sponsored by the West Seattle Lions Club since 1933. Sea Scouting is a program for teenagers open to young men and women between the ages of 13 and 21. Through Sea Scouting, we teach sailing, safety and seamanship, but our primary focus is on personal responsibility, teamwork, leadership, and character development. We also provide exposure to maritime careers, service to our community, mentors and role models, STEM-based educational learning, environmental stewardship, and wholesome outdoor recreation. The Yankee Clipper Foundation owns and operates a 44-foot Sail Training Craft from the Naval Academy. Built in 1990 and rigged as a masthead sloop, she is the fourth large vessel to serve as the Sea Scout Ship "Yankee Clipper".
