Mission Statement
The Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle is on a mission to activate the world-shaping power of pop culture through participative experiences, discovery, and play.
About This Cause
MORE THAN A MUSEUM Pop culture brings people and communities together all around the world, and MOPOP is dedicated to celebrating, preserving, and strengthening those connections through exceptional exhibitions, educational programming, young artist development initiatives, free online collection vault, and more. Since opening our doors in 2000, the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle has reached more than 12 million people to share the power of pop culture. Thanks to community support from donors, members, and volunteers, together we are preserving pop culture history for future generations, empowering tomorrow's visionaries through creative expression, creating community around topics that engage and unify, and ensuring that MOPOP remains a place for every pop culture fan. In 2025, we will celebrate our 25th anniversary! OUR VISION A world where everyone sees and wields their cultural power. OUR BELIEFS - Pop culture is powerful. It is a theater, an open world, and a runway where we can imagine new realities and try them on for size. - Pop culture is who we are. It defines us and we define it. - Pop culture connects us. In an era of digital and physical isolation, pop culture is a connective force. - Pop culture is complex. We have the responsibility to explore and expand the scope of every story. - Pop culture is alive. It’s constantly moving and changing both form and medium. OUR COMMITMENT TO DEIA MOPOP sees pop culture as a dynamic history that shapes the world through creative expressions in film, fashion, music and gaming. We're committed to collaborating with staff and community to foster equity and disrupt inequitable power dynamics. Our mission centers on harnessing the transformative power of pop culture through meaningful interaction. Based in Seattle, we serve diverse audiences and draw connections between local, national, and global cultural narratives. Diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) are core to our practices, and guide our exhibition choices and strategies. We invite you to join us in building an inviting, transformative institution that ensures pop culture is for everyone.
