Mission Statement

Washington Women's Foundation is a strong and inclusive collective of informed women who together influence community transformation.

About This Cause

Washington Women's Foundation engages women in the power of collective giving. The Foundation makes major grants of $100,000 every year to Washington-based nonprofits in 5 funding areas: Arts & Culture, Education, Environment, Health, and Human Services. A Grant Committee comprised of over 70 Foundation members gain hands-on grant making experience through this process. The Foundation’s approach to grant-making is pro-active, participatory and democratic. All members contribute to a funding pool, and all are welcome to participate in the Grant Committee, which provides a six-month grant making curriculum to guide the grant making process. In addition, the Foundation delivers over 50 educational programs and events during the year, designed to enhance member knowledge about community issues, philanthropy skill-building, and professional and personal leadership. Foundation members also recommend individual grants to qualified nonprofit organizations of their choice throughout the region and country. The Foundation welcomes new members at any time – any woman interested in strengthening the community through philanthropy and education is encouraged to contact the Washington Women’s Foundation to join in our work.
