Columbia Valley Affordable Home-ownership builds opportunities for low-income families in Chelan and Douglas counties to own their first home.
About This Cause
Columbia Valley Affordable Home-ownership is a small community-based non-profit organization that serves low-income families and individuals. We provide free financial counseling, home-ownership counseling, and down-payment assistance. We operate a revolving loan program that can provide much needed gap financing in the high-priced housing market here. As a traditionally agricultural area grown up into a haven for second homes and retirement, Chelan and Douglas counties have seen home prices spike far beyond the ability of our region's agricultural and service industry workers to afford. It is critical to retain a balance between the massive wealth flowing into the area as a recreational paradise and the demand for worker housing. Assisting low-income families into home-ownership, rather than subsidized housing, helps stabilize them financially and bring them up and out of poverty for good, while benefiting our entire community with the power of increased home-ownership rates.
