Mission Statement
Promoting healthy and sustainable forests and watersheds by investing in the well-being of diverse rural communities and strengthening their participation in natural resource decision-making and programs.
About This Cause
For over thirty years, Sierra Institute has pioneered innovative, place-based programs by engaging rural stakeholders through applied research, pilot studies, and collaborative problem-solving. Understanding the vital connection between rural communities and forest landscapes, the Sierra Institute is dedicated to promoting sustainable social, environmental, and economic practices that benefit both people and ecsystems. In 2024, Sierra Institute continues to focus on rebuilding resilient communities in the face of wildfire threats. In 2023, we constructed three cross-laminated timber homes in Greenville, CA, for community members who lost their homes in the Dixie Fire. This year, we completed the reconstruction of the Roundhouse Council, a local Mountain Maidu community center, utilizing Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) materials. You can view images of our CLT homes on our website in the "What We Do" section under Mass Timber Housing. As we look ahead to 2025, Sierra Institute will continue working toward our key objectives including forest resilience and watershed health, fostering public-private partnerships for funding, transitioning to regenerative forest management, aiding in wildfire recovery, promoting climate action, and empowering rural communities. We firmly believe that we are stronger together. By supporting our community and and working towards a more resilient landscape, we are fortifying the future for all rural communities facing wildfire threats. Your tax-deductible donation is vital to our efforts in managing local forests and assisting communities as they recover from unprecedented wildfires. Sierra Institute is working harder than ever to address these challenges. Your donation will support: -Forest management, fuel reduction, and watershed restoration. -Biomass wood utilization and mass timber innovation. -Policy advancements with state and federal agencies. -Ecological restoration through our youth conservation corps. Your contribution can empower rural communities striving to enhance the health and secure the future of our forests and watersheds.
