Mission Statement
Cancer Research And Biostatistics (CRAB)® is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to help conquer cancer and other diseases through the application of biostatistical principles and innovative data management methods. CRAB believes every cancer patient counts and every potentially lifesaving treatment deserves rigorous and prompt clinical study, no matter how tough the cancer. CRAB®’s approach to curing cancer is to collaborate with investigators to design, implement, and execute clinical trials such that reliable and replicable results are obtained.
About This Cause
CRAB, a 501(c)(3), was founded in 1997 by John Crowley, PhD, an internationally renowned biostatistician. Antje Hoering, PhD, President and CEO, leads the organization and Dr. Crowley serves as Chief of Strategic Alliances and is a member of the board of directors. The CRAB research is well experienced in the development of statistical methods and technologies to optimize cancer research and the clinical trial process.CRAB’s approach to curing cancer is to collaborate with investigators to design, implement, and execute clinical trials such that reliable and replicable results are obtained. We provide expert input from the designing of the study and protocol development through to the final analysis and publication of results. Our highly trained cancer research specialists, together with our customized electronic data capture system, provide seamless data collection, query tracking and resolution so that analyses follow immediately upon study completion. The SWOG Cancer Research Network is our primary client of CRAB but our clinical trial services have been secured by other consortia, research institutes and pharmaceutical companies. We have extended our expertise to cancer staging, historical controls, high dimensional genomic correlatives and targeted designs and therapies.CRAB has served as the Independent Analysis Center (IAC) for a circulating tumor DNA project, ctMoniTR, led by Friends of Cancer Research (Friends) since December 2019. The goal of ctMoniTR is “to harmonize the use of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) to monitor treatment response (ctMoniTR) in patients with cancer and test the feasibility of data comparison from different clinical studies.” The research team at CRAB is mission driven. Our goal is to prevent or cure cancer. We are committed to assuring research quality and integrity so that patients on our trials and others who follow will benefit from the knowledge gained. Our mission is to help conquer cancer using the tools and expertise we bring to oncology clinical development: • Biostatistical principles • Oncology clinical trials expertise • Data management and monitoring services • Electronic data capture solutions • Experienced research professionals • Education, support and training Our core values include: • Team Player • Positive Attitude • Integrity • Compassion • Open Communication
