Mission Statement
Asian Adult Adoptees of Washington (AAAW) provides a welcoming community to new and current participants, a mentorship program for youth adoptees called the Adoptee Mentorship Program (AMP), educational opportunities for Asian/Pacific Islander adoptees, awareness of issues adoptees face, and allyship to adoptees of different nationalities and communities.
About This Cause
On December 7, 1996, a group of adult adoptees met for dinner in Seattle to discuss the potential for an adoptee organization. Although this was the first time some of the adoptees had met, a need for camaraderie and support among adult adoptees was identified. At that time, a network for adult adoptees in Washington did not exist. Thousands of adult adoptees have been raised in communities devoid of the types of resources available to the current generation of younger adoptees. There are many experiences unique to being an Asian adoptee that many of us share, regardless of our generation or location. AAAW exists as a result of a belief that together, adoptees constitute a unique community both locally and globally. Based in Seattle, AAAW is a federal 501(c)(3) status nonprofit organization led by an all-volunteer board of directors.
