Mission Statement

The Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation (NWPF) was founded in 1998 with the vision of helping people with Parkinson’s and their caregivers live their best with Parkinson’s today, anticipating the cure tomorrow. Our mission is to establish optimal quality of life for the Northwest Parkinson's community through awareness, education, advocacy and care. The NWPF achieves our mission by supporting specialty care, producing and distributing free educational and support resources, raising awareness of Parkinson's disease and developing self-care tools that help improve quality of life for people with Parkinson’s, their families and caregivers.

About This Cause

The NWPF plays a vital role in helping people with Parkinson’s live meaningfully with the disease. The information that the Foundation provides gives patients and their families the tools they need to find quality medical care, better manage their disease and take charge of their daily lives. Our work also extends to healthcare providers and seeks to build awareness among the general public in order to create a continuum of care sensitive and beneficial to the Parkinson’s community. Our programs and services are designed first and foremost with the patient and caregiver in mind. By delivering relevant and timely information and resources geared towards improving care and enhancing wellness, we aim to have a direct and meaningful impact on the daily lives of the patients, families and caregivers so central to our mission. This focus on the patient and caregiver is enhanced by our work to promote specialized care throughout the healthcare community and build awareness among the general public, creating a continuum of optimal treatment, care and support. In the context of Parkinson’s, knowledge is power that provides assurance and hope for the patient and caregiver, improves care and treatment from the healthcare and social service community, and builds awareness and sensitivity in the general population to the needs of our served population. We estimate that our programs and services currently reach approximately 25,000 Northwest residents annually. Yet we know there are more than 70,000 in our five-state region living with Parkinson’s disease. As we strive to reach more and more of this un- or underserved population, our costs will rise accordingly. Still, we strive to continue providing the majority of our programs and services free of charge to eliminate any barriers to critical information regardless of need. As we receive no government support, we rely exclusively on the generous contributions of individuals, private foundations and corporations to support our work. Your support provides the resources necessary to maintain our core programs and services while increasing their availability to a wider audience, and the flexibility to respond to unforeseen or pressing needs in the Parkinson’s community as they arise. For more than 14 years the NWPF has given hope to thousands living with Parkinson’s in our community. With your generous support we can help so many more achieve an optimal quality of life.
