Mission Statement

Understanding that parents are our children’s first teachers, we model the Montessori philosophy as a way of life to our children. We honor the ideals of Maria Montessori and support our teachers as they continue to provide high quality Montessori education in the public school setting. Parental involvement is at the core of our success.

About This Cause

The Central Kitsap Montessori Parents Association is a volunteer organization providing resources and raising funds to foster a quality education and exceptional learning experience for children in the Central Kitsap School District's public Montessori elementary program. Through the collaborative efforts of parents, community members, and the Central Kitsap School District, this public school Montessori program opened in September 1991 with a primary class (grades 1-3). The Montessori program has since grown to a total of six classrooms, including three primary classes (grades 1-3), two intermediate classes (grades 4-5), and a kindergarten class. We serve approximately 130 students. Our Montessori program is one of the few public school Montessori programs in the state of Washington, and one of around 250 across the nation. Understanding that parents are our children’s first teachers, we model the Montessori philosophy as a way of life to our children. We honor the ideals of Maria Montessori and support our teachers as they continue to provide high quality Montessori education in the public school setting. Parental involvement is at the core of our success. The funds we raise send students to the Seattle Art Museum, Pacific Science Center and Planetarium, and Seattle Children’s Theater, as well as to our local Bremerton Symphony, Peninsula Dance Theater, and Bainbridge Island Museum of Art. We provide outdoor learning opportunities, such as exploring the Pacific Northwest salmon runs, coastal tidelands, and a 3-day outdoor camp in the Olympic National Park. In 2019, we were able to build an outdoor garden shelter at the elementary school, fostering a covered place for the children to learn and explore our environment. Our unique garden program was recently featured in the Kitsap Sun: http://www.ckmpa.org/press. The purpose of Montessori education is to activate a child’s own natural desire to learn, and we can only do that by providing children with unique educational experiences both inside and outside the classroom. Thank you so much for your generous support!
