Mission Statement

We are the Seattle chapter of the Society for Humanistic Judaism. Our mission is to be a welcoming home for non-theistic, self-identifying Jews and their loved ones, and to educate our next generation about Judaism's rich history, traditions and culture with an emphasis on the significance and impact of personal and social responsibility, rather than divine intervention.

About This Cause

Since 1995, we have been gathering as a community, dedicated to preserving and passing on Jewish identity, values and culture from a non-theistic, humanist perspective. Our circle welcomes self-identified Jews from all walks of life, including individuals and families of all ages, abilities, colors, genders, sexualities, faiths and cultures. Together, We Gather …to observe Jewish rituals and holidays, with ceremonies that are thoughtfully adapted to reflect the philosophy and values of secular humanistic Judaism. Together, We Learn …our Sunday School curriculum and optional B’nai Mitzvah program help our community's children grow up with an authentic Jewish education through a secular humanistic lens, such as by teaching supernatural intervention as myth, and instilling the power and significance of tikkun olam - personal and social responsibility. Together, We Grow …as we explore the evolution of Jewish thought and culture across nations, eras, and mediums, to craft our own expression of Judaism that is authentic to who we are today.
