Mission Statement
Urban ArtWorks engages youth, artists, and communities in the creation of public art that inspires connections and honors their voices.
About This Cause
Since 1995, we have collaborated with more than 2,000 youth and hundreds of communities to bring art to public and private spaces throughout Seattle. We envision a world where all people have access to the transformative experience of creating public art. We achieve our Mission and Vision through 4 core programs: 1. The Mural Apprentice Program (MAP) provides arts-based employment opportunities for youth with barriers to employment and education, including those who are in the juvenile justice system. 2. The BASE CREW is an opportunity for teens who have completed the Mural Apprentice Program, to continue their arts training with a one-on-one mentor. 3. SCHOOL-BASED programs provide opportunities for youth K-12 to work alongside Teaching Artists to explore themes and issues, design, and install murals within their schools. 4. The Commissioned and Community Mural program works with business owners and organizations to facilitate interactive community engagement around the research, design, and installation of murals and public art in specific communities.
