NORTHWEST AVALANCHE CENTER

North Bend, Washington, 98045 United States

Mission Statement

The Northwest Avalanche Center exists to increase avalanche awareness, reduce avalanche impacts, and equip the community with mountain weather and avalanche forecasts, education, and data.

About This Cause

The Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC) saves lives by providing avalanche forecasting and education for the Cascade and Olympic Mountains in Washington and northern Oregon. NWAC serves all Northwest citizens by facilitating transportation over the mountain passes, but those who recreate in the mountains in the winter receive the greatest benefit. In addition to forecasting, NWAC offers free avalanche awareness classes to the public, with a particular focus on youth who recreate in the mountains. NWAC’s goal is to prevent avalanche fatalities in the Northwest.
