Mission Statement
The mission of Ashesi University is to educate a new generation of ethical, entrepreneurial leaders in Africa; to cultivate within our students the critical thinking skills, the concern for others and the courage it will take to transform a continent.
About This Cause
Located in Ghana, Ashesi combines a multidisciplinary core with degree programs in Computer Science, Business Administration, Management Information Systems, and Engineering. All students take part in a 4-year leadership seminar series as well as service projects in the community. Recognizing the critical link between an ethical foundation and effective leadership, Ashesi was the first school in Ghana to institute an academic honor system. 1,505 students from 34 African countries live, work, and study together on our world-class campus. Ashesi students come from diverse economic, ethnic, and religious groups; as of 2019, women make up 48% of students, and 54% of students receive need-based financial aid. Nearly all alumni start businesses or find placement in careers or graduate school within six months of graduation — and 71% choose to stay and work for progress in Africa. Ashesi graduates are an increasingly diverse representation of African leaders, all equipped with the tools to identify problems and seek solutions in their workplace, communities, and the continent at large. Ashesi's growth into an exemplary university over the past two decades has impacted higher education across Africa in multiple ways. From a pioneer class of 30 which started classes in a rented building, the University now has a beautiful campus overlooking Ghana's capital Accra, with students and alumni working for the progress of their continent. The work of Ashesi's community proves that values-based education focused on problem-solving in Africa matters.
