About This Cause
Hospice and Palliative Care Services: Providence Hospice of Seattle serves adults, children and families throughout King County, including Vashon Island. Our teams of professional health care providers have specialized training in end-of-life care. Our hospice care teams include nurses, medical social workers, home health aides, chaplains, occupational/physical therapists, pharmacist, medical directors, grief support counselors and volunteers. Through skilled, compassionate care, we strive to meet the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of patients and families. Hospice care is most effective when it is begun early so that patients and their families can benefit from the education, support and counseling services. The truth is that hospice is not about how you die. It is about how you live. Hospice care helps patients and their families make informed choices, provides companionship to patients and respite to caregivers, provides grief support, and identifies key community services that can be of assistance. All hospice services are provided in the patient's home or place of residence: nursing home, assisted living facility or adult family home. Children's Hospice and Palliative Care: Our Stepping Stones program is a pediatric palliative care and hospice program open to any child with a life-limiting illness in King County, including Vashon Island. Grief Support: Providence Hospice of Seattle offers a full range of compassionate response to children and adults who are grieving the loss of a significant person. We realize the importance of acknowledging the unique grieving process of every individual. Included in this acknowledgement is the understanding that grief has no timeline. We offer a variety of opportunities for ongoing support and education regarding grief, loss, and life adjustments following the death of a significant person. Our purpose is to help individuals, families and communities identify their needs and strengths and to provide them a supportive presence for up to 15 months after the death. Our program offers a continuum of support for children to older adults and is available not only to families of hospice patients, but to anyone grieving who resides within King and South Snohomish counties. Grief Support for Children and Teens: Safe Crossings is our program for children who are facing or have experienced the loss of a loved one. We honor the philosophy that each child’s needs are unique. Our Master’s level counselors can provide compassionate and knowledgeable support for grieving children of all ages and their families living in King and South Snohomish Counties. Safe Crossings is designed to offer a variety of education and support opportunities, including phone consultations, grief support groups, activities and workshops, a special weekend summer camp ~ Camp Erin®King County ~ and individual sessions in the office, home, or school setting, as well as written material.
