Mission Statement

The Mission of the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center is to provide high quality, comprehensive, and culturally appropriate primary health care to the communities of Washington and Yamhill counties with a special emphasis on migrant and seasonal farmworkers and others with barriers to receiving health care. The mission of the Virginia Garcia Memorial Foundation is to provide enduring support for the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center through funding, community relations, and through the cultivation of community friendships, partners, and donors.

About This Cause

While accompanying her farmworker parents to Oregon in 1975, six-year-old Virginia Garcia acquired a simple foot wound, and when economic and linguistic barriers prevented her from receiving the care she needed, it led to her untimely death. Stunned by this tragedy, community leaders joined together to form Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center in a three-car garage in Cornelius, Oregon. Since its founding 50 years ago, Virginia Garcia has grown from a grassroots volunteer-run clinic into a full service health care home serving Washington and Yamhill Counties. Today, Virginia Garcia employs over 600 people and serves more than 52,000 patients at five primary care clinics, six dental clinics, five school-based health centers, and a reproductive health clinic in Hillsboro. We also provide outreach to schools, community health fairs, and underserved communities through our mobile clinic.
