About This Cause
DHF Programs Vecinos Unidos - DHF Organizers use a grassroots house meeting model to form neighborhood organizations called “Vecinos Unidos” (Neighbors United). Vecinos are trained on civic engagement and collective action to identify the needs of their communities and schools and to engage with public officials to ensure they attain positive outcomes that address those needs. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) & Mapping - DHF implements GIS technology and data applications into the organization’s infrastructure to enhance its organizing and civic engagement efforts including voter outreach, education, redistricting, and Census 2020 outreach. Civic Engagement - Through integrated voter engagement and education, DHF has been instrumental in passing progressive local and statewide legislation to increase funding for public services. In a partnership with California Calls, we have established a base of over 20,000 local supportive voters. The DHF has successfully pushed for more fair and representative district voting maps. Youth and Family Civic Engagement Initiative - DHF empowers hundreds of youth activists to work for social justice: providing leadership development and the skills necessary to head community improvement projects and hands on advocacy campaigns to secure equitable policies and investments in their respective communities in Kern, Tulare, Fresno, and Los Angeles Counties. Equality - DHF works to create a healthy, accepting, and supportive environment for Latino LGBTQ+ youth by building a base of volunteers empowered to pursue and advocate for safe and inclusive school climates and ensure schools meet the needs of LGBTQ+ and gender nonconforming students. Education - DHF aims to systematically dismantle the School-to-Prison Pipeline by engaging students and parents in meaningful training and advocacy to ensure that they are at the forefront of public input on school district spending and reform of discriminatory school discipline policies
