Mission Statement
Hebrew Free Loan of Washington State provides financial assistance by providing interest-free loans to the Jewish community to cover a wide variety of needs, including paying off medical bills, housing, education costs, transportation and sometimes HFLA loans are just a necessary bridge just to make ends meet. HFLA is part of the Jewish community safety net in Washington State.
About This Cause
For over a century, Hebrew Free Loan Association of Washington State (HFLA) has been helping Jewish residents of Washington address financial shortfalls, and to provide a stepping stone to opportunity with interest-free loans. Some of the programs HFLA provides to the Jewish community: Scholarships HFLA offers scholarships of up to $6,500 for higher education. Education Loans The Student Access Fund (SAF) program provides interest-free, no fee loans for up to $7,500 for higher education. General Loans General loans cover a wide array of circumstances and are often a symbol of hope and a beacon of last resort. This program offers help to those experiencing unexpected life emergencies. With this funding applicants can obtain the health care they need, nurture their families, maintain a roof over their heads, improve their long-term job prospects, ensure they have transportation, and pay for the basic services and utilities most of us take for granted. Lifted from the Torah HFLA loans embody the highest level of charity outlined by Maimonides - to support fellow Jews with loans to strengthen their ability to meet their own needs and to limit dependence on others (Mishneh Torah, Laws of Charity, 10:7–14). A Strong Community Safety Net HFLA does not charge any fees for our nonprofit programs. We believe that by improving the well-being of individual community members, HFLA strengthens the financial and communal health of Washington State Jews and demonstrates that the Jewish community’s safety net and commitment is there for them.
