Mission Statement

To achieve its mission, the SAS conducts activities for its members that enhance the observational, educational, and social aspects of amateur astronomy. The SAS encourages communication and collaboration among its members, the development of member proficiency in amateur astronomy, and member participation in all aspects of the society's mission. In addition, the SAS organizes activities designed to improve public understanding of astronomy. These activities promote the classical study of the night sky and foster an appreciation of the science of astronomy through hands-on demonstrations and telescopic observation.
