Mission Statement

The mission of the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience (The Wing) is to connect everyone to the rich history, dynamic cultures and art of Asian Pacific Americans through vivid storytelling and inspiring experiences. Through The Wing, underrepresented populations voice their culture, history, passions and perspectives. We work hand-in-hand with everyday community members through our nationally recognized, refined Community Advisory Committees approach. This process facilitates individuals to tell their own stories, outreach within their networks, and produce exhibitions and programs. Community members take active roles in continuing and sharing their cultures, and inspiring action on issues today.

About This Cause

Founded in 1966 as a tribute to community hero, Wing Luke, an immigrant and first person of color elected to Seattle's City Council in 1962, The Wing serves as a cultural and economic anchor within Seattle’s historic Chinatown-International District. The Wing engages the public in the history, culture and art of Asian Pacific Americans (APAs) through community-driven exhibitions and public programs, educational resources and youth programs, guided tours and neighborhood revitalization activities. We offer free after-school, art-based programs for middle and high school students that serve refugee, immigrant, and/or low-income APA youth. These programs are designed to connect APA youth with professional artists who help students build arts and leadership skills through strong intergenerational and inter-community relationships. Our distinctive role is reflected in national recognitions – named the first affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution in the Pacific Northwest, and recently established as an Affiliated Area of the National Park Service.
