Mission Statement

PAWS visions a world where all people recognize the intrinsic value of animals and consistently make choices that reflect compassion and respect. At PAWS, people come together to help cats, dogs, and wild animals go home and thrive—whether home is the family room or the forest. We do this by rehabilitating orphaned and injured wildlife, sheltering and adopting homeless cats and dogs, and educating the community to inspire compassionate action for animals.

About This Cause

We at PAWS want to connect with people like you—people whose compassion extends to both companion animals and wildlife. Take Kiki, a dog found abandoned in a grocery store parking lot. Frightened and alone, she waited for someone who would never return. Every day, more animals like Kiki arrive at PAWS as families struggle with financial hardship. At the same time, donations are declining nationwide, stretching our resources thinner than ever. But right now, you can help give them the second chance they deserve. PAWS isn’t sustained by large corporations or government funding—80% of our support comes from caring individuals like you. When we come together as a community, we create hope and save more lives. You can also be the hero for a wild animal like a bald eagle who arrived at PAWS badly injured and severely anemic after falling from a tree. She needed a blood transfusion, treatment for a fractured beak, and care for a foot wound. It’s because of supporters like you that she received expert care, rebuilt her strength in our raptor habitat, and soared back into the wild. Every eagle returned to the sky is a powerful symbol of resilience and a reminder of what your generosity makes possible. We invite you to be part of this community of compassion—because animals like Kiki, and eagles like hers, need you. YOUR IMPACT IN NUMBERS Since 1967, thanks to people like you, PAWS has: • United more than 170,000 cats and dogs with loving families • Cared for over 160,000 sick, injured, and orphaned wild animals • Made the world better for countless others through outreach, education, and advocacy At our PAWS Companion Animal Shelter and PAWS Cat City, our dedicated teams: • Care for more than 4,000 dogs and cats each year • Provide training and education to strengthen the human–animal bond • Work to end animal cruelty and overpopulation At our PAWS Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, our expert veterinary teams: • Provide care for more than 260 species of mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles • Serve as one of only two permitted facilities in Washington State to rehabilitate American Black Bears and marine mammals, primarily Harbor Seals.
