About This Cause
Bean’s Cafe History Bean's Cafe was founded in February 1979 by Lynn Ballew and was named after her daughter "Bean". We are a private non-profit, non-sectarian organization that has been providing services to Anchorage's needy citizens for over 40 years. In 2006 we acquired "The Children's Lunchbox" organization, with a mission of providing meals to needy children in the Anchorage area. Bean’s Cafe Services Provided: Bean’s Cafe provides services in four major areas: food, day shelter and social service referrals. We serve over 1100 meals per day, each and every day of the year, both breakfast and lunch. We provide day shelter for the use of our clients each and every day. Our average cost per meal is just .5! The Children’s Lunchbox a program of Bean’s Cafe provides meals for hungry children in Anchorage. We also have a very successful weekend food program for kids in 8 of the Anchorage Title 1 elementary schools. Most recently we've added the a school food pantry program and begun weekend meal distribution at the Anchorage Downtown Market site during the summer months when free and discounted meals are not available. Bean's Cafe Description of Beneficiaries: Our beneficiaries are the homeless and food insecure individuals of Anchorage.
