About This Cause
Tutifruti is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Florida that promotes mental health and physical wellness in disenfranchised communities through skating and art. Our vision is simple: to create safe spaces, nurture mental wellness, and foster a community that values diversity and celebrates inclusivity. We organize inclusive events centering BIPOC, women/girls, and LGBTQ+ skaters, with all wheels, all levels, and all ages welcome. We conduct monthly skate clinics with the focus of providing skate coaching to the community at no cost. In addition to skating-focused programming, our creative workshops encourage diverse forms of coping, promoting emotional exercise in addition to physical exercise. Mental health affects us all, and the statistics speak volumes. Nearly one in five U.S. adults grapple with a mental illness, and the struggles faced by LGBTQ+ youth underscore the urgent need for support. Based on neuroscientist Dr. Bruce Perry's neurosequential mode, skating is an activity that has been found to activate four specific parts of the brain that help with emotion regulation and learning new skills. It improves mental health, fosters community, and encourages diversity and resilience. Together, let's roll towards a world where mental health matters, and everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
