About This Cause
Lot21’s innovative platform informs and empowers the design community to advance climate action in the built environment – by transforming complex climate content into clear, inspiring, and actionable media that illuminates new ways to design for decarbonization and how to participate. Here's why we exist: The design community is uniquely positioned to play a central role in tackling climate change as it shapes the built environment. To embrace and advance climate action, it is essential to better inform and empower more professionals and students across the design disciplines. But few have the time to find and digest complex climate content scattered across numerous sources. Nonetheless, companies and countries will need more guidance from the design community to meet their climate commitments. Today, most of the design community focuses on adaptation (climate resilience) and mitigation (emissions reduction) yet often overlooks another crucial part of a comprehensive climate action strategy: restoration (carbon removal). Since we cannot adapt or mitigate our way out of climate change, we must also remove excess carbon emissions from our atmosphere, which warm our planet, to simultaneously restore our climate. Lot21 bridges the gap by integrating this crucial third pillar of climate action into a unique teachable framework. This innovative approach emphasizes carbon removal and its utilization methods to design for decarbonization more comprehensively. Moreover, we combine the expertise of scientists, policymakers, and pioneering entrepreneurs, as climate change is too complex a problem for any field or industry to tackle alone. To navigate this complexity, the design community needs a resource that aggregates a wealth of climate information, making it more understandable and actionable. Lot21’s open platform integrates all three climate action pillars with cross-disciplinary expertise to provide easily digestible, visually compelling content, talks, and courses.
