About This Cause
FFEC US has been supporting projects in a slum in East Delhi, India in the areas of education, skill development and awareness about health and nutrition. Our focus is on women, children and youth from low income marginalized communities as their empowerment can bring about sustainable change in their community. The programs impact more than 600 people every year. Here are highlights of key programs we have been supporting: 1. Raah - Life Skills for Youth Workshop attended by around 50 youth each year on: -Gender equality -Spoken English -Career guidance -Mental health -Creative Art -Environment and Recycling 2. Kadam After-school classes Four sessions of after-school classes for kids aged 8-14 years , Monday-Friday attended by 100 children (75% are girls) each year. Most of them live in jhuggis in Ambedkar Camp. We focus on improving the fundamentals of the attendees in all subjects, with special attention given to Mathematics and reading skills. In addition our educators also assist with homework and preparing kids for school examinations. A significant improvement in students' grades was observed by end of the school year. We also provide coaching for board and college examinations and are proud all students coached were able to pass their 12th class boards. 3. Zarriya: Technical skills FFEC sponsored eleven students who have completed class 12 for a one year diploma course in Food Technology. The key objectives of the course are to educate them about food processing and preservation, inform them about opportunities in this sector, build entrepreneurship skills and provide 6 months hands-on training at different companies. 4. Sehat - Health and Nutrition for girls and women Adolescent Girls A week long workshop on menstrual health and hygiene for adolescent girls. Attended by around 50 girls, the sessions were informative and gave an opportunity to learn about their bodies and ask questions they are often unable to ask anyone. Women Awareness sessions for women on healthy diet, nutritious food for the family and diseases such as hypo and hyperthyroidism, high blood pressure and diabetes were held. We are looking for funds to start a new project in partnership with Heights and Minds Foundation based in Netherlands on women and child to monitor the first 1000 days of infants and guide and train mothers and pregnant women on good nutrition.
