Mission Statement
The Dog Rose is a Romanian charity start-up for a new kind of animal shelter worldwide. Instead of confining orphaned animals to cramped cages, street dogs at The Dog Rose live in a two-hectare shelter park where they can have contact with people and their own kind. Schoolchildren learn all about the street dog problem on site, cute puppies play with young families at Sunday picnics in the great outdoors, and young adults from all over Europe pay as volunteer dog park rangers for meaningful, modern volunteer tourism. About This Cause
A sustainable solution to the street dog problem can only be achieved by changing the attitude of the younger generation. In its own dog school, The Dog Rose therefore teaches children and school classes how to interact with street dogs in a playful way. Socially neglected children and traumatized street dogs thus benefit from each other. Thanks to daily contact with people, shy orphan dogs become trusting and adoptable. The Dog Rose transforms depressing animal sanctuaries into a hopeful tourist attraction with happy frolicking dogs and a variety of sources of income: local animal clinic, amusement park with vegetarian café, vacation stay for upper-class dogs from Bucharest, event offer for children's birthdays, volunteer hostel for young people from all over the world and much more. The declared goal is long-term financial independence from donations and the development of a non-profit-oriented business idea to ensure the survival of the project. The Dog Rose deliberately creates emotional and rational win-win situations at all levels. The result is a charity lighthouse concept which, thanks to its simplicity and attractiveness, can be easily applied wherever thousands of stray animals have to suffer and where land is affordable. A world with street animal parks that complement classic city parks as original tourist attractions.
