Mission Statement
We give children the best possible start in life! Our Vision: The Heights and Minds Foundation envisions a world where every child’s first 1,000 days ensure a happy, healthy, and productive life, free from malnutrition and rich in cognitive development opportunities. Our Mission: Our mission is to give children a strong foundation in life by preventing chronic malnutrition and promoting cognitive development in the first 1,000 days of life. To achieve this, we use an innovative tech-based approach to address child growth, development and parenting challenges in the first 1,000 days through the MindUp Concept. Heights and Minds is committed to a more sustainable, prosperous future for all. Our ambition is to reach 100,000 children and mothers by 2030. Our work on preventing chronic malnutrition contributes to the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-Being, Gender Equality, and Decent Work and Economic Growth.
About This Cause
Our mission is to give children a strong foundation in life by preventing chronic malnutrition and promoting cognitive development in the first 1,000 days of life. We do this by establishing MindUps. We work hand in hand with pregnant women, new mothers and parents. We use an innovative tech-based approach to track child growth and development, provide individualized counseling and support. We address all parenting challenges parents experience in the first 1,000 days of life through the MindUp Concept. Why do we do this? Because the first 1,000 days of life determine a child's future and parenting is not an easy job. During these first 1,000 days children grow a lightning speed, tripling their weight, almost doubling their height, and the brain reaches 80% of its adult size by age 2. Good nutrition and feeding practices, loving care and early stimulation are crucially important in this period. The challenge lies with educating parents and communities regarding the importance of the first 1,000 days, the drivers of malnutrition and how to improve practices. Health facilities and workers often lack the means, training and time to provide efficient, quality growth promotion, early stimulation, and child development services. Without the proper care and support, children and their parents miss out on essential knowledge in those crucial early years and are at high risk of not reaching their potential in life. Heights and Minds works hand-in-hand with communities to address these challenges at the MindUps. The MindUp Concept: MindUps are dedicated spaces run in partnership with local communities where parents and caregivers can learn and support their child's growth and development in an engaging, trusted and stimulating environment. A MindUp is a community catalyst that drives positive change. MindUps offer innovative solutions and support meaningful engagement in early childhood and parenting. At the MindUp: Trained MindUp Managers work with parents to track the growth of children under two, monitor the weight-gain of pregnant women, and offer individualized counseling for parents. They also host engaging activities like nutritious cooking classes, sensory classes or baby brain boost classes, and climate smart urban gardening projects and much more. Women and caregivers use digital materials, videos, and games to learn and connect with others through the Global MindUp Network. Soon childcare cooperatives will be organized to free up mothers’ time to engage in income-generating activities and time for self. The Heights and Minds Digital Solution: The HMF digital solution, developed with CISCO's support, is cost effective, community driven and scalable. It securely tracks nutrition and development, offers real-time updates, and provides personalized advice to help each child grow and thrive. Our Ambition: Our ambition is to reach 100,000 children and mothers by 2030. Our current reach in 2024: We have 9 active MindUps in six countries (Senegal, Indonesia, Uganda, Malaysia, Cambodia and India) serving 5,000 direct beneficiaries reaching 25,000 households.
