Mission Statement
Raphael House of Portland is dedicated to ending domestic and sexual violence. We support survivors through emergency and ongoing services, while advancing systemic change through community-based education and collaborative advocacy. We are committed to building a future where survivors, their families, and our communities thrive.
About This Cause
Since 1977, Raphael House of Portland has offered interconnected services that address domestic violence at the individual and systemic level. Our emergency services, including our shelter and 24-hour hotline, meet the urgent need for safety for survivor families in imminent danger after fleeing abuse. Housed in a confidential location, our gender-inclusive shelter operates nonstop, every day of the year, and provides 25% of all local domestic violence bed space. Meanwhile, our ongoing supportive services—which focus on safe housing, meeting basic needs, economic empowerment, addiction recovery, and holistic wellness—are a resource for families long-term as they build safe, stable futures. We are also dedicated to preventing future abuse. Our Prevention Education program works across all 9 Portland Public high schools, in partnership with VOA Oregon Home Free, to help eliminate the causes of intimate partner violence. Together we teach thousands of students how to engage in meaningful, equitable relationships and practice consent, while also providing one-on-one confidential advocacy and support groups for youth. In 2024 alone, Raphael House served more than 5,542 survivors and community members through our emergency shelter, ongoing services like support groups and tenant education classes, workshops on equitable relationships and consent, 24/7 hotline, and housing assistance programs. Community support is essential to Raphael House, and to the safety of the people we serve. The shifting federal landscape has hurt our current and future funding opportunities, and we face further significant reductions to already insufficient funding. Partners like you can help ensure that our vital services continue without interruption or reduction - and help us envision a brighter, safer for everyone.
