Mission Statement
At its core HAVEN is committed to advocating for survivors of their path to freedom from violence. HAVEN's Mission is to provide safe and supportive services to those affected by interpersonal and sexual violence by empowering survivors and our community through advocacy, education and prevention.
About This Cause
HAVEN from Domestic and Sexual Violence is the only nonprofit community-based organization providing comprehensive services to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, trafficking and stalking in Wasco, Sherman, Gilliam and Wheeler Counties. HAVEN also provides services to surrounding communities along the Columbia River Gorge, The River People and the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation. The organization began in 1981 with a very small group of concerned citizens. One of the first services HAVEN offered was a 24-hour crisis line, which continues today as a vital part of our on-going safety net. The Primary Purpose of HAVEN is to advocate for a non-violent, non-oppressive soiety for over 30,500 citizens in Wasco, Sherman, Gilliam and Wheeler Counties and surrounding communities along the Columbia River Gorge. HAVEN also provides direct services to victims of domestic/dating violence, sexual violence and assault, trafficking and stalking, as well as prevention through education. HAVEN's Philosophy in accordance with HAVEN’S Mission and Purpose, we believe in: • Individual freedom from all forms of abuse and violence as a basic human need and right • Empowering survivors of abuse and violence to make their own decisions and exercise their right to self-determination • Permanently breaking the cycle of violence • Respecting women, men, and children equally • Offering a program that incorporates prevention, intervention, support, and education for individuals and the community • Advocating for public policies that make violence unacceptable in our society • Conducting our own affairs in a professional and ethical way • Establishing HAVEN as a leader and community partner in HAVEN works with Community Partners: HAVEN believes that all people have a right to violence-free lives. Domestic violence, teen-dating violence, sexual assault, stalking and child abuse should never be tolerated or condoned. These acts have a devastating effect on victims, their families and society as a whole. Ultimately a healthy community is ours to create. Through culturally sensitive solutions, awareness, education and communicating proactive behaviors that establish intolerance of violence with those around us, we make our community a little safer. And the more people take action, the closer we get to our goal.
