HABITAT FOR HUMANITY PORTLAND REGION

Portland, Oregon, 97211-0000 United States

Mission Statement

Habitat for Humanity Portland Region creates successful homeownership by partnering hardworking families in need with the community to build healthy, affordable homes.

About This Cause

At Habitat for Humanity, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, and that starts with a stable and healthy place to call home. Founded in 1981, we have built and repaired homes in partnership with over 2,500 people right here in the Portland region. As of January 1, 2021 Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East and Willamette West Habitat for Humanity merged to form Habitat for Humanity Portland Region. With plans to triple the number of people we serve every year, we are invested in creating a Portland region where everyone has the opportunity to build a better life. Habitat is the only homeownership and critical home repair organization in the region to focus on families earning between 30% and 60% of median family income (less than $40,000 per year for a family of four). Over 80% of Habitat families are people of color, many of whom are single parents, or have endured serious hardships as refugees, veterans or survivors of domestic abuse. Nearly 20% have a family member with a disability – a child or an elder – limiting their housing options. They are hardworking, resilient and capable of improving their situations, given a one-time “hand up” that Habitat can provide.
