Girlchoir is recognized for its adventurous programming, unparalleled choral music education, commissioning of new music for treble voices, and artistic excellence. During its 24 years, the Girlchoir has trained over 2,000 young women, averaging five years tenure, totaling 10,000 years of glorious music-making in PSG! Girlchoir and beautiful music go hand in hand. It truly is “Like no other”!
About This Cause
MISSION: To provide an unparalleled performance experience and choral music education creating a community of girls and young women with a distinct voice today and for the future. The Portland Symphonic Girlchoir will be celebrating 25 years of unparalleled performance and choral music education in 2013-2014. The choir of 140 singers, in grades K – 12 from over 100 schools in the greater Portland and SW Washington area, work together in five progressive ensembles. Each season, Girlchoir ensembles perform outreach concerts at area schools, hospitals, and senior residences and collaborate in concerts with other arts organizations such as Portland’s Columbia Symphony Orchestra, Intergenerational Women’s Choir, and Portland Youth Ballet. As schools have cut back on music programs, Portland Symphonic Girlchoir has become an increasingly critical resource for girls seeking a quality musical education and live performance experience.
