Mission Statement
The primary purpose of the Women's Forest Sanctuary is to preserve a 14-acre old-growth redwood grove in South Humboldt County and to protect this threatened forest habitat along California's northern coast. We became a non-profit land trust in April 1993 and are dedicated to raising funds to complete the purchase of the land. Our purpose includes education about nature, inter-dependency with our environment, and care for the health of our planet.
About This Cause
The Women’s Forest Sanctuary is preserving and protecting the ecological integrity of a 14 acre old-growth redwood grove on the North Coast of California. The Sacred Grove is one of the last remaining riverside redwood groves on the Mattole River. Individuals and groups are welcome to stay at The Sacred Grove. Visitors find contact with The Sacred Grove to deepen connection with the wisdom of the ancient forest and to inspire personal and planetary healing. Our primary programs include an annual mailing to approximately 600 people to provide information about The Sacred Grove and environmental activism and to request donations. We host an annual Guardians of The Grove gathering to connect with the land, to engage in ceremony, and to network with local activists and supporters. We offer the grove for other events, such as Vision Quests and retreats. We collaborate with Sanctuary Forest and other organizations in the Humboldt and San Francisco East Bay areas that are committed to preserving forest lands. The Women’s Forest Sanctuary engages in educational and fundraising events in the Bay Area. Since 2013 we have facilitated a self-reflective visioning experience with low-income urban youth at Redwood Regional Park in Oakland. In May 2016 we initiated a campaign to raise funds and to build community. www.generosity.com/fundraisers/sacred-grove.
