The German International School of Portland (GIS) is a collaborative community with a student-centered learning environment that encourages growth into bilingual world citizens, who strive for academic and creative excellence, embrace healthy and responsible behavior, and value independence and lifelong learning.
About This Cause
The German International School of Portland (GIS) is a vibrant, inclusive community dedicated to fostering academic excellence, language immersion, and global citizenship. Our mission is to provide an outstanding educational experience where students develop fluency in German, Mandarin, and English while embracing cross-cultural understanding. GIS stands on four pillars: academic excellence, language as an access point to the multicultural world, a community of learners, and environmental stewardship. These guide our program and define our commitment to shaping globally minded citizens. Two external organizations, the Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen (German Schools Abroad) and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), help us stay aligned with international standards of excellence. Our talented faculty inspires students to reach their full potential through rigorous academics, extracurricular opportunities, and an emphasis on core values such as self-discipline, respect, integrity, and a passion for lifelong learning. Through GIS Gives, our Annual Fund campaign, we invite families, alumni, and friends to support this mission. GIS Gives helps sustain our exceptional programs and provides resources to inspire our students to thrive as leaders in a global community. Together, we build a brighter future—one gift at a time.
