Mission Statement
ASO is an independent, non-governmental youth sports development organization which has been working to meet the needs and safe guarding the rights of at-risk street youth in West Africa for nearly 20 years. Although ASO goes far beyond soccer training and games, soccer taught and played with the right mix of inspiration, passion, hard work and dedication help build character which in turn leads to productive future young leaders. ASO uses football/soccer to create an environment for continued learning which guides the way to a US, European, or African college education.
About This Cause
African Sports Outreach uses sports and teamwork to help at-risk kids create a more positive image of themselves in their communities. African Sports Outreach (ASO) is an international youth development organization committed to supporting at-risk African youth with after school soccer programs, equipment donations, schooling, medical support, and meals. With donations from clubs, high schools, and colleges in the United States as well as sports companies such as Euro sport and Nike Inc., ASO has provided $1,125,000 (GIK value) of soccer footwear, apparel, and equipment, outfitting more than 20,000 at risk boys and girls - 120 sport teams throughout West and Southern Africa. In 2007 ASO opened ASO Togo soccer academy in Lome, Togo West Africa, which supported more than 200 street youth and orphans with schooling, after school soccer, and medical support. Since ASO Togo’s early beginnings in 1990 with 10 at-risk sponsored youth, the ASO Togo soccer school for life bloomed into a highly respected non-profit soccer school for life where nearly 200 at-risk youth, ages 8-18 received basic health care, schooling, nutritional support and after school soccer training and matches. Due to political unrest in Togo, ASO Togo closed the doors to its school in 2014. From 2014 to present ASO is focused on supporting at-risk street youth boys and girls teams with re-useable soccer equipment, uniforms and footwear.
