Mission Statement

Bethlehem Inn serves as the only emergency shelter in Central and Eastern Oregon providing shelter, food and case management services for adults and children experiencing homelessness. Because there is no other organization in our community providing the same comprehensive support as the Inn, our services are critical for over 1,100 people served each year.

About This Cause

Our mission is to transform lives with shelter, help and hope. We accomplish this by providing a safe, secure, and accountable environment for men, women and families through the provision of emergency shelter, nutritious meals, hot showers, clothing and access to basic support services. Under the auspices of local faith communities and a broad base of volunteers, the Bethlehem Inn was established in 1999 to address the issue of homelessness in Central and Eastern Oregon. The Bethlehem Inn moved into a converted motel in mid-2007. Although the economy collapsed into recession in the fourth quarter of that year, the staff and board of the Inn have made the most of available resources, expanding the shelter's capacity to 78 single men and women and five families. To ensure that resources are used to maximum effect in this challenging environment, the executive director and staff constantly re-evaluate programs and procedures. Last year, the Inn provided warm, safe shelter, three nutritious meals, a hot shower and access to support services for 791 adults and children. This translates into 27,501 bed-night stays for the 605 single adults, 82 moms/dads and 96 children. Over 74,000 meals were provided to our residents; 935 food boxes were provided to exiting residents and others in need. Today, the Bethlehem Inn continues to be the only emergency shelter in our region providing adults and children experiencing homelessness with the basics of survival. Successfully supporting these adults and children requires an integrated and comprehensive case management approach. Within 24 hours of entering the Inn, Case Managers prioritize the immediate needs of each resident; initially addressing the basic survival needs of housing, food, safety and health. Within 5-7 days, case managers meet with residents to help them identify the root causes of their life challenges, enabling them to make customized referrals(avg 3-4) to partner agencies to help build life skills, confidence and assist in securing necessary resources to achieve the goal of returning to stable housing. Working in close collaboration with over 70 community partners, the Inn leverages these relationships to create a streamlined approach, which eliminates duplication between services.
