Mission Statement
Restoring territories & re-storying identities with ancestral and life-centered communities in Ecuador.
About This Cause
Rehearsing Change is a U.S.-based non-profit (501c3) that supports environmental, educational and social justice programming in Ecaudor. We work with local Indigenous communities in the Amazon and Andes to weave ecological restoration with community-based education in an effort to re-story what it means to live sustainably and reciprocally with our most senstive ecosystems. Two of our primary projects are Humans for Abundance and the Escuela del Bosque (Forest School). Humans for Abundance (H4A) is a grassroots model for fighting climate change and poverty. We partner with indigenous families in Ecuador to restore their forests and re-story their identities. H4A provides economic incentives that build a pathway to transition from toxic monoculture, cattle ranching, and deforestation to earning a living as ecological restorers. Our approach marries local ancestral wisdom with modern sustainability practices to directly tackle climate change, biodiversity loss, and socio-economic challenges. Complemented by our education program that teaches project development, leadership and conflict resolution, our restorers turn degraded lands back into vibrant ecosystems, ensuring food security, economic stability, and cultural survival. They go from feeling powerless to feeling powerful; an incredible healing journey of their hearts, minds, and territories that inspires them to lead the way to healing our planet. The Forest School (La Escuela del Bosque) is an unprecedented educational model for Indigenous communities in Ecuador. It interweaves indigenous knowledge with progressive environmental education, resulting in the rejuvenation of both community and ecosystem. Unlike traditional public schools, the Forest School immerses students in their living environment, teaching them regenerative agriculture, bioconstruction, and the importance of biodiversity through hands-on experiences. Complemented with high speed internet connectivity and a curriculum that includes math, language arts, English, arts and entrepreneurship, community youth are prepared to be intercultural leaders in our complex world while growing closer to their cultural roots. HUMANS FOR ABUNDANCE and the FOREST SCHOOL are run by REHEARSING CHANGE INC, a NONPROFIT created by the same people to facilitate the flow of resources directly into communities in Ecuador.
