Mission Statement
The New York City Children’s Chorus is a graded choral program for children in the metropolitan New York City area who wish to receive training in the art of singing in a rigorous and rewarding choral environment. The program enables choristers, through hard work and dedication, to develop a passionate commitment to excellence through the choral art, to learn discipline and self-confidence, and to give back to their community through the gift of music.
About This Cause
The New York City Children’s Chorus is a graded choral program for children in the metropolitan New York City area who wish to receive training in the art of singing in a rigorous and rewarding choral environment. Founded by Artistic Director, Mary Wannamaker Huff, in 2012, the NYCCC is comprised of eight choral ensembles for children ages five through eighteen, steeped in the bel canto tradition, exploring a range of Western music from Bach to Broadway. The advanced performing ensembles have graced the stages of New York’s most prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, Dvořák Hall, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and Town Hall. Recent appearances include monumental performances of Vaughan Williams’ Sancta Civitas, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, Duruflé’s Requiem and appearances on NBC’s TODAY, Saturday Night Live, Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and Apple TV’s City on Fire. In previous seasons, the NYCCC has performed Schubert’s Mass in G, Benjamin Britten’s Saint Nicolas, Fauré’s Requiem, and Vaughan Williams’ Hodie. The choristers have performed successful concert tours in Spain, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Canada, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Nashville. The choir’s recent album, "Christmas in New York," won the Ernst Bacon Prize for American Music, as well as the American Prize in 2021. The choir’s first album, "Simple Gifts," a collection of American and British Art songs from the 20th Century was released by MSR Classics in the fall of 2015.
