About This Cause
The Charity programs offer SSGS volunteers the opportunities to practice doctrinal knowledge through effective actions in the face of a community lacking material and emotional resources. During each activity, the interaction with our less favored brothers must be inspired by affection and brotherly love. The Charity programs include: - Issaquah Meals - this activity aims to bring ready-to-eat food and personal hygiene products to brothers in the city of Issaquah. The work is carried out once twice a month and involves the collaboration of SSGS volunteers and community volunteers. We provide meals (cooked and served) every first and third Saturdays of the month for the homeless, families, and senior citizens in the community. For 31 years, the Issaquah Meals program has served nightly meals, at the Community Hall located at 180 E. Sunset Way, Issaquah, WA next to the fire station. At the request of the city of Issaquah and local churches, the program was started in May of 1989 by Catholic Community Services. Initially, meals were served two times per week and then it was increased to Monday-Friday. Volunteer groups from local faith congregations, community organizations, families, and neighborhood groups provide the weeknight meals. The program provides a safe and welcoming atmosphere for guests and volunteers. There is also a site leader available each night to answer questions and provide resources. - Open Arms program started in June of 2023. The Open Arms Project’s mission is to assist and support Foster Families with donations of diapers and wipes. Every month we collect diapers (sizes that are most needed by the Foster Care System). The donations are made via the Amazon link provided which will then ship the donation to a volunteer’s home. The link is posted once a month on the Auta De Souza | Open Arms WhatsApp Group. The volunteers will then take items donated to the store in Everett which the Foster Families can access when they need support for their foster baby.
