BLK South seeks the development, vibrancy, and well-being of historic under-resourced African American neighborhoods across the U.S. South through community development projects.
About This Cause
BLK South is a faith-rooted nonprofit organization committed to the cultural, spiritual, and economic revitalization of historically Black neighborhoods in the American South. Rooted in the principles of Asset-Based Community Development, we work alongside communities to nurture what already exists—honoring Black legacy while cultivating new possibilities for thriving. Our work centers on reimagining the South not as a place of trauma and dispossession, but as sacred ground for healing, memory, and hope. Headquartered in Durham, North Carolina—specifically in the historic Hayti District—we carry out our mission through three primary initiatives: (1) community led community development and place-based restoration; (2) cultural reclamation through the arts, storytelling, and creative justice; and (3) spiritual formation and leadership development, especially among youth and community leaders. We believe healing happens when people are seen, stories are honored, and land is restored. Your support helps us expand this work—equipping a new generation of leaders, cultivating sacred community spaces, and renewing the soul of the South. Together, we are telling a new story: one of return, resilience, and radical belonging.
