About This Cause

Friends of COPA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit has been created to reduce the financial burden for camp volunteers. Friends of COPA was founded in November 2023 by Erin Tiffany, Steve Reinitz, and David Shove-Brown, and received our IRS nonprofit designation in January 2024. We have experienced being volunteers at our favorite Camp Oasis and spending our own money to make the week magical for their campers. For many, this financial burden is great, but is done for the love of our campers’ experiences. While establishing a shared Amazon Wishlist has certainly helped, the out-of-pocket cost for many of our volunteers was still in the hundreds of dollars last summer, with a few spending much more than that. We are still fundraising for our General Operating Fund and Endowment, as well as for our 2024 Annual Fund. We will review funding requests from volunteers to ensure Annual Fund dollars are directed towards the greatest need and largest opportunity for impact. Our first funding priority will be to cover the costs of supplies and equipment that volunteers are currently paying for out of their own pockets or asking friends and family to chip in. If we are successful in fundraising, we also hope to offer travel grants to help offset the cost of travel to camp for those with the greatest need based on financial circumstances and travel burden. We will have fundraisers throughout the year and soon are to launch a product line where all profits go direct to the Annual Fund.
