Mission Statement

Palo Alto Humane's mission is to inspire our community to connect humanely with animals.

About This Cause

Palo Alto Humane (PAH), founded in 1908, is the third oldest animal welfare organization in California. PAH is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, charitable, volunteer-supported and donor-funded organization. PAH works to keep animals out of shelters and with their families, and to bring people and animals together to generate human-animal bonds. PAH provides programs and services and community outreach throughout Santa Clara County and the Peninsula, including: Visiting Pals: Volunteers provide animal interactions in schools, senior centers, assisted living facilities, libraries, mental health facilities, businesses, and more so that individuals of all ages may experience positive and de-stressing interactions with animals. Pet Health Assistance: Financial assistance for people facing unmanageable veterinary expenses. We collaborate with local veterinary clinics to facilitate needed medical treatments and directly pay these clinics for critical care, surgeries, and treatments. Spay/Neuter Surgeries: Our spay/neuter program provides critical funding to help underwrite surgeries for homeless animals and those from low-income households. Animal Rescue Fund: PAH works with local volunteers to rescue homeless animals, provide immediate care, and cover the cost of spay/neuter and veterinary rehabilitation as needed.
