Mission Statement

Based on the principles of Reform Judaism, PENINSULA TEMPLE BETH EL is a holy community that cares for our members, the people and the State of Israel, and the world around us. We promote the love of Torah from generation to generation by inspiring Jewish living through study, prayer, fellowship, and good deeds.

About This Cause

Building on our many strengths, our vision is to create: - A thriving center of Jewish community life. PTBE will be a vibrant hub of activity engaging the Peninsula Jewish community. The welcoming warmth of spirit, and comfortable environment will make PTBE a place where you will want to belong and become involved. A community committed to making the world a better place. PTBE will be known for being a caring community through generosity and social action. PTBE and its members will be highly regarded for their work in making the world a better place. We will be deeply engaged with the broader community. Members and non-members, Jews and non-Jews will come to learn about the world, share ideas, and experience family life together. A place where participation is valued and where leadership can be developed. We will be a community where many people will volunteer their time and give of themselves financially because their contributions are valued. People will see the results of their generosity and work and take pride in our collective accomplishments. We will honor the contributions of our members by knowing that our Jewish traditions are sustained. We will be a community where our members can offer leadership in a variety of ways, and where the development of future leaders is ongoing. Our community and all our efforts are guided by the following 6 values: INCLUSIVITY We respect and accept the differences among our community. We welcome people with divergent beliefs, perspectives and spiritual practices. Interfaith couples and families are an important and valued part of our community. We strive to create a welcoming, comfortable environment and a sense of belonging for all. We welcome the stranger, embrace our members, and honor our elders. EDUCATION Every member of our community is both a teacher and a learner. Our learning and teaching is not confined to the classroom or the pulpit. We treat each other with integrity, dignity and respect as we learn from both our successes and our failures. SOCIAL ACTION “If I am not for others, what am I?” We are inspired by our participation in Torah study, worship and spiritual life as we actively engage in social action and perform good deeds in our community. CREATIVE WORSHIP AND CELEBRATION In addition to our regular worship offerings, we encourage and create ongoing opportunities to experience our spirituality. Through creative worship and celebration, people are aided in their quest for purposeful and meaningful lives. GENEROSITY We see the worth in all that we do for each other. We acknowledge the need for our effort and our funds to serve our community and continue our work. We give openly, spiritually and generously, and honor all the contributions of our members. K’LAL YISRAEL We embrace being part of a larger Jewish People and actively seek to build bonds with the Jews in our own community, in Israel and around the world. We seek opportunities to work collaboratively with other Jewish organizations and communities.
