Mission Statement

Girls Incorporated (Inc.) of Alameda County is a nonprofit organization with a mission to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold.

About This Cause

For more than 65 years Girls Inc. of Alameda County has served the community as the largest affiliate in the national Girls Inc. network, with the shared mission of inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. We are guided by the vision for all girls growing up in Alameda County to feel valued, safe, and prepared to achieve their dreams of college, career, and leadership. We provide a continuum of academic enrichment and social emotional development programs for girls and young women (TK-early career), using an innovative approach that incorporates local needs into research-based curricula. This continuum consists of hundreds of hours of annual programming provided: daily at school sites during the school year, year-round in our downtown Oakland Simpson Center for Girls - which draws girls from 60 schools across Oakland and the East Bay Area, and during the summer at our Concordia Park location, and at Cal State East Bay in Hayward. Based on our desire for a more equitable society, we focus on girls from historically underserved populations who have consistently had the least access to the resources and opportunities required for success. Recognizing the unique gender, social, and economic challenges that girls face —particularly girls of color, we take a holistic approach. We prioritize their health, mental well-being, education, and leadership development to support the whole girl. We begin with building foundations in literacy and support girls developmentally with each milestone along the way, including academic achievement, positive risk taking, health and fitness, advocacy, leadership, college and career access, workforce development and more. We have consistently been able to serve thousands of youth each year from transitional kindergarten through early career. This includes our Alumnae Network who we continue serving as they navigate college and career, as well as our Apprentices who are part of our Expanded Learning Apprenticeship, a new initiative that launched in early 2023. The Expanded Learning Apprenticeship is a two-year program and the first-of-its-kind in the State of California in the Expanded Learning/ Afterschool education field where participants work part-time while earning college credits at no cost. Our programs are 100% philanthropically supported, enabling us to continue providing them at zero cost to families. To learn more, please visit us at http://girlsinc-alameda.org/
